As the saying goes, some things are in fact better in person. This is definitely the case for the iconic London-based cupcake brand: Lola’s Cupcakes. They ship nationwide cakes in a rather overstated box but I have found that their delivery cakes pale in comparison to the ones you can buy at their in-person counters across Central London.
Whilst that may seem obvious, I mean, who would prefer a postal delivery cake over a freshly baked cake? (There is a difference) Not all of us are fortunate enough to be within commutable distance of their cupcake counters..

I ordered their nationwide postal gluten-free cupcake box and out of the kindness of my heart, offered the salted caramel cupcake to someone passing by as I was opening the box (definitely not because I despise salted caramel).
Flavours that I received in the gluten-free box: Chocolate Fudge, Chocolate & Raspberry, Red Velvet, Blueberry, Carrot and Salted Caramel.

I do enjoy their gluten-free red velvet cupcakes but the texture was just a bit too ‘mushy’ and this was the case for all cupcakes.
I was pleasantly surprised with the gluten-free blueberry cupcake. It’s not a flavour I would typically go for but it did the job.
Chocolate fudge was very chocolatey, as the name suggests. If you like chocolate, you’ll probably like that one.
Chocolate and Raspberry was disappointing – I ate that one a few months prior in London and the sponge held much better.
Carrot: Edible.
Note to self: Always buy cake in-person from Lola’s Cupcakes and leave the postal delivery cakes for emergency situations only.
