How to Get Your Sugar Fix in Thessaloniki

If you are like me and you have an insatiable sweet tooth that becomes particularly active in the late night hours, you need to check out the following 3 places to get your sugar fix in Thessaloniki!

1) Choureál | Choux & Profiterole located at Paleon Patron Germanou 9, Thessaloniki 546 22 and El. Venizelou 20, Thessaloniki 546 24

Choureál is popular on Greek social media for good reason. Their patisseries in Thessaloniki and Athens are visited daily by tourists, locals and students alike! 🥰

The iconic choux filled pastries will entice you if the elegant storefront doesn’t (see below).

Choureál’s pastries will leave you wanting more. You get to choose from a range of sweet toppings like pistachios, fresh strawberries, crushed butter biscuits etc. Check out the video to the right to see how they assemble profiteroles. 👉🏼

I am convinced their crème pâtissière is a recipe imparted to them from the Greek gods. It’s just out of this world 😃

My most recent order via Wolt was delightful – I received a gift of chocolate éclair in addition to my paid order. It was actually my birthday so this was such a wonderful surprise and a memory I’ll cherish forever!

In terms of pricing, you can expect to pay around 4.80 EUR for the base profiterole and then add ons for 0.20 cent can lead to an average total of 5.40 EUR.

They also sell family size profiteroles, for 5-6 people, starting from 25 EUR. You can always order via Wolt, the food delivery platform, in case you don’t want to visit the physical store for whatever reason.

2) Blé Taste Gallery, Agias Sofias 19, Thessaloniki 546 23

If you’re on a budget in the city, don’t get put off by the chic exterior of Blé Taste Gallery, located in the centre of the city. It is a chic and elegant concept, but its priced very reasonably and you can experience a very refined dining experience for one with around €10 (EUR).

Indulge in their delectable mignons (bite-sized tarts) for a sweet treat. I try to balance it out with their savoury tomato and cheese focaccia in the same sitting. Both are simply delicious!

The staff are helpful and proactive with rearranging the sophisticated displays to ensure the eatery remains well-maintained.

Blé Taste Gallery is open until 12am, at the time of writing this article in September 2024. Always check their opening hours on Google or call beforehand.

3) Albeta, Ionos Dragoumi 9, Thessaloniki 546 23

Albeta has been ranked as 3rd because their sweet pastries usually sell out by the afternoon, but if you’re an early riser, get yourself over to their bigger store on Ionos Dragoumi and order a delicious blueberry and creme stuffed mini croissant.

It’s mini sized so you have to order a few to equal a normal sized croissant 😌 Oh, and it only costs 0.80 cents apiece!

Albeta also sell cakes ranging from red velvet to carrot cake, as well as tarts.

It goes without saying that you can also find traditional Greek desserts here such as bougatsa, a custard cream pie in filo pastry.

All of their pastries and cakes are affordable and you can also order via the food delivery platform Wolt, to receive the goodies directly to your front door!
