I often find myself reminiscing about the many Sundays I spent at Rose & Vanilla in Utrecht, enjoying a heart-warming vegan hot chocolate while overlooking the bustling intersection of Amsterdamsestraatweg.
Indulging in a guilt-free slice of carrot cake here quickly became a part of my Sunday routine after a nice walk in the city-centre.
If you ever find yourself in the beautiful city of Utrecht, you simply cannot overlook the delightful Rose & Vanilla café.
Located at Amsterdamsestraatweg 11, Rose & Vanilla is heaven for those seeking gluten-free and refined sugar-free treats.
This ‘gezellig‘ café is owned and operated by a friendly Dutch couple. The co-founder, Daphne, lovingly prepares all of these treats in Utrecht so you are guaranteed high quality and fresh products.
The café offers a 100% gluten-free menu, ensuring that customers with celiac disease or gluten intolerance can enjoy their meals without worry. Additionally, many of their offerings are also vegan, lactose-free, and refined sugar-free, making Rose & Vanilla a welcoming destination for a wide range of dietary restrictions.
It’s also a great place to study/work peacefully for a few hours or even for a first date 💑 (particularly if you’re not yet familiar with your date’s dietary restrictions or food allergies.)
The icing on the cake is that the desserts and drinks are super affordable, and you can enjoy a normal sized cake with a hot drink for around 10 EUR. To view their full menu (in Dutch) check out the link here.
Rose & Vanilla’s pastry selection in the Utrecht café includes:

–gluten-free carrot cake (my favourite – comes in mini size, regular size and celebration cake size)
-mini floral infused cakes (these come in a dainty pack of 4 – they smell amazing and look so delicate – a nice gift for Valentine’s Day!)
-gluten-free brownies in chocolate, coffee and walnut flavours (although I am not a fan of coffee, I did enjoy them sometimes as a change from the fruity cakes mentioned above)
-gluten-free cheesecakes in mango with yuzu flavour/raspberry with strawberry flavour/coconut and lemon flavour *(the last was my guilty pleasure, especially in summer!)
-tiramisu (I didn’t try this one but I’m sure it’s great)
-some seasonal delights such as gluten-free speculoos biscuits (I liked them a lot)
When I moved out of Utrecht but still wanted a gluten-free treat, I would buy these goodies via the organic superstore Ekoplaza. They sell mini size 4 pack fruity cakes or mini 4 pack brownies. You will find it in the fridge section of stores across the country or you can order it online by clicking on the links above and adding it to your winkelmandje 🛒 (shopping basket).
